So, some time ago, I wrote about joining Mastodon and the difficulty I had had in my first attempts at becoming a user in the Fediverse. Months later, I am enjoying life there. The ratio of idiots to reasonable people is much, much more to my liking and it actually really stands out when someone is aggressive or unreasonable. That doesn’t mean that everyone agrees all the time, just that they tend to disagree in a more civilised manner. I hope it continues.
Anyway, this post is in the way of a little test as the first one after I installed and activated the ActivityPub plugin on my web site. This is really cool and has created quite a buzz on the Fediverse. Basically, it means this blog becomes a kind of server for the Fediverse. Anyone can follow this blog in the same way as they follow anyone. You just need to follow @@, which is the kind of format used (user name followed by server name). After that, every blog post appears on your timeline, and any response you write appears as a comment on the blog. I can also respond to that comment in my blog to reply to the person in the Fediverse. I think it is really cool and I think this principle could transform how some people use social media.
Having written all that, I will only know if it has worked after I publish this, so here goes!
