Episode 35 represents a relaunch of the podcast after a difficult year. Episode 34 was recorded in October 2025. It was never easy getting 4 people together at the same time, but we usually managed 3. In the runup to Christmas, we didn’t manage that. Then we heard that Pete Sharma was unwell, and to keep a far too short story even shorter, in April 2026 he passed away. Family issues for me and the inevitable summer hiatus doing pre-sessional teaching meant it was about now when we managed to get back together and record a podcast.
The intention of this episode is partly a homage to Pete, but also to consider how someone near the beginning of a career in this field might look like in 25 years in terms of skills and knowledge. What would, could, should CPD look like? So, for the foreseeable future, we are going to base the podcasts on relating theory to practice, looking at what research tells us, and linking this to skills frameworks to enable teachers to see how it might fit into their own CPD plans. Neil couldn’t make it again, so Kevin and Laura had this initial discussion.
